Actinium-225 (225Ac) - LANL is scaling up production of 225Ac from the proton bombardment of natural thorium targets in the high energy position at IPF. At this time, irradiated targets are shipped to ORNL for processing. 225Ac (t1/2 9.92d) can be used for direct targeted alpha therapy applications or as a generator for the shorter-lived daughter, of 213B.

Strontium-82 (82Sr) - 82Sr is supplied to our customers as a cGMP product (following current good manufacturing practices for US FDA compliance) for use in 82Sr/82Rb generator technologies. The generators in turn are supplied to hospitals and medical laboratories to support cardiac imaging through Positron Emission Tomography (PET). The generator technology was developed by the DOE Medical Radioisotope Program during the 1970s and 1980s, and the technology was transferred to private industry in the late 1980s. The DOE continues to be an important part of the domestic supply chain for the strontium–82 for the generators. Strontium-82 is produced by proton bombardment of rubidium metal or rubidium chloride targets utilizing the energy range between 40 and 90 MeV.

Germanium-68 (68Ge) - 68Ge is produced in the low energy slot at IPF via proton bombardment of gallium targets, and isolated using a liquid-liquid extraction process. The 68Ge product is shipped to customers for manufacture into a generator for the shorter-lived 68Ga, which is used for Positron Emission Tomography (PET). 68Ga is of interest because it can be bound to targeting molecules to enable specific imaging of cancer and other diseases.

Sodium-22 (22Na) - High specific activity 22Na is supplied for use as a tracer or as source material for Positron Emission Tomography (PET).

Other isotopes routinely produced or in inventory from the LANL Isotope Program include aluminum-26, silicon-32, arsenic-73, ytrrium-88, zirconium-88, high specific activity cadmium-109, tellurium-119m, cerium-139, gadolinium-148, lutetium-173, mercury-194, bismuth-207, and americium-241.

Orders are placed through the National Isotope Development Center.
